講座概要

【目的と内容】
Subject and goal　This is an introductory－level course in Japanese⇔English interpreting work in business meetings，　negotiations，and presentations． We will practice basic oral translation skills in various　business－related scenes， e．ｇ． in－house metings/conferences， HR－related exchanges，marketing，sales 　negotiations/presentations，handling complaints，etc．　This is an ideal course for those who would like to improve oral translation skills for in－house　interpreting work，or those who work in a bilingual work environment and are often asked to do　simple oral translation and would like to further improve such skills． Also，those who are 　interested in starting a professional training in conference interpreting work， those who are　interested in starting preparations for various certification/license examinations in interpreting/　guiding work (e．g．国土交通省通訳案内士試験等)，or even those who are just simply curious about what　interpreting work is like will benefit from this short intensive　course in basic interpreting　(oral translation) skills．　
【学習方法】
Learning method 　Mainly drill practice (individual/pair/small group) of Japanese⇔English oral 　translation based on the textbook， plus comments from the instructor．　
【学習形態】
Learning mode　The class will be conducted in English； instructions， explanations， comments， etc．　will be given basically in English． The main class activities will be drill practice on on－the－spot 　oral translation skill， along with analytical listening and note－taking practice．　
【受講者に期待する到達レベル】
Final level you wish students to attain　1． Become able to handle basic interpreting (oral， on－the－spot translation) on various business－　related topics　2． Become able to make a quick priority judgement on what needs to be translated (＝communicated)　first and how．　3． Understand what interpreting work is like； understand what kind of further skill training is　necessary to become a qualified interpreter．
